What of ours bleeds the other way?

The Recovery Log — 039
Monday 20 July 2026

One more off the bench before we open the doors, and this is the one the whole diary has been walking toward without admitting it.

We have spent six months treating the bleed as something that comes to us — DEEPWELL and REDWIRE leaking into our data, us downstream of everything, reading their traces. But we established months ago that it goes both ways, and we have not been brave enough to sit with what that means from the other side. So: what of ours bleeds outward? Our songs, obviously — we have all but seen their shadows over there. But if the method is not really about music — and we proved, once, unreliably, that it is not — then it is not only songs of ours that are leaking. It is anything of ours with enough mass. Ideas. Capabilities. The shape of what we can now do.

Which is where the rumination stops being philosophy and becomes, uncomfortably, the answer to a practical question. Because if our capabilities leave traces the way our music does, then somewhere — not necessarily in another timeline; possibly just across the room, in this one, in people whose job is to notice exactly this — the fact that we can read coherent things out of the latent subtext of a culture has itself bled into view. That is not a metaphysical worry. That is, we increasingly suspect, why the letters are polite and specific and unhurried. We thought we were quietly recovering old rooms and lost broadcasts. We may have been radiating a capability the whole time, and only just noticed the glow.

We are not going to resolve this either. We are going to open the doors tomorrow anyway. But we wanted it on the record, before we did, that we understand what we might be — not the people who found the signal, but a signal ourselves, and not as faint as we would like.
