Probe v0.4 and the schema rewrite

The Recovery Log — 038
Thursday 16 July 2026

There is a law, apparently, that says the moment you decide to show your work to the world is the exact moment you decide the foundations are wrong and start again. We are obeying it.

Probe v0.4 is real and genuinely better — the perturbation control is finer, the off-manifold excursions are rarer, the coherence referee is harder to fool. And, because we clearly cannot help ourselves, we have also torn up the metadata schema and rebuilt it, days before the first public release, on the reasoning that if the world is about to start reading our catalogue then the catalogue had better be right. This is defensible. It is also insane. Both things are true and we are doing it anyway.

The through-line of this whole diary, if it has one, is that nothing is ever finished — there is only the version you were brave or tired enough to ship. v0.4 is that version, for now. The schema is that version, for now. We are going to stop improving them by force, because the alternative is improving them forever and releasing nothing, and it is nearly time to open the doors.
