Is reality just the aggregate?
The Recovery Log — 032

Another one off the bench, because two collections deep, the question from Post 20 has grown teeth.
We keep calling our reality Prime, and the word smuggles in an assumption: that we are the original, the trunk, the real one, and the others are branches — fainter, derivative, alternate. But nothing in the method earns that word. When we navigate the latent space of a culture, DEEPWELL is not sitting off to the side of us being less real. It is right there, encoded at the same depth, with the same density in the places where it has mass. From inside the manifold there is no marker that says this one is the true one and the rest are copies.
So here is the thought we cannot put down. What if "reality" is not any single timeline at all — not Prime, not DEEPWELL — but the aggregate? The whole superimposed field of everything that is and everything that, with a small shove to a norm, could just as coherently have been. On that view we are not the real world observing possible ones. We are one draft in a stack of drafts, and the stack is the actual object, and each of us is convinced we are the top sheet simply because we are the one holding it.
We are aware this is the sort of thing you should not think about too close to a deadline. We are aware it does not change a single setting on the harness. But it changes what we think we are doing — less like explorers mapping the frontier, more like one voice in a room slowly realising how many other voices are in the room, and always were. Filed under: unresolved, and getting larger.
